San Francisco Plantation
On the banks of the Mississippi River, less than an hour's drive west of New Orleans, stands one of the most remarkable examples of mid-nineteenth century architecture in Louisiana. Built in 1856 by Edmond Bozonier Marmillion, the house was originally named "St. Frusquin", a name derived from the French slang term, Sans Fruscin", which means "without a penny in my pocket" (presumably, a reference to its high cost).
